Postcards from Abroad: Jamee Hood

Women's Track and Field

Postcards from Abroad: Jamee Hood

We leave Europe and travel back to Washington, D.C., to catch up with Jamee Hood, a senior on the women's track and field team. She is a major in math with a minor in sustainability. Here is her report on how her experience has been so far.

What classes are you taking? What class is your favorite?
I am taking Global Agenda and American Diversity. Both are great, but I enjoy American Diversity the most because of the opportunity to debate and hear different perspectives.

What internship are you doing? What are you getting out of it?
I am a communications intern at the Environmental Working Group. EWG is a non-profit organization that spreads awareness about the effects of consumer products on human and environmental health and encourages consumers to make healthier decisions. I have been learning a lot about the inner workings and day to day of a non-profit organization.

What made you want to stay in the country but still have the "abroad" experience?8382
I'm from the D.C. area and want to start my career here as well, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to get some experience and build meaningful connections in D.C.

Do you like being in the United States but still being away from school?
Definitely. D.C. has a lot of great things to offer and change of any kind provides a lot of opportunity for learning and growth.

What are you doing to train and prepare for your sport while so far away?
I am lucky enough to have a roommate who enjoys running and going to the gym, so she has been a great training buddy for me. We are motivating ourselves with the goal of running 11 miles along the C&O canal from Arlington to Great Falls at the end of the semester.

Any words to your team back home?
I miss you guys and am so proud of all the things you are accomplishing on and off the course! Mules fly together!
