The Muhlenberg track and field teams opened their outdoor season in conditions more conducive to competing indoors.
The chilly temperatures and stiff winds at Lafayette made every event a challenge, but the Mule teams still were able to muster some noteworthy performances:
• Senior
Shira Gamson was the lone Muhlenberg athlete to win an event, taking first in the triple jump.
• Sophomore
Kelly Stephen recorded a huge personal best in placing third in the hammer. Her mark of 128-7 topped her previous high of 99-6 by more than 30 feet and moved her from seventh to third on the Mules' all-time performance list.
• Senior
Lauren Siesky ran a personal best of 27.67 in the 200, finishing fifth.
• Senior
Avery McNulty placed second in the high jump.
• Senior
Lydia Jenkins-Ford (pictured above left) won her heat of the 800.
• Freshman
Charlie Vanecek (pictured above right) was one of five members of the Muhlenberg men's team to place second, in the long jump.Â
• Other second-place finishers were freshmen
Leo Dauberman in the javelin and
Kadon Harris in the 400-meter hurdles, senior
Andrew Smolowitz in the 3000 meters, and sophomore
Sean McNeil in the high jump.
• Freshman
Matthew Bertolino finished in the top eight in both the hammer (sixth) and shot put (eighth).
• Sophomore
James Williams set personal bests in both the 100 (11.32) and 200 (23.25).
