Standouts Ben Mulford, Sam Roberts, and Jack Scuro have been named captains of the 2025 Muhlenberg men's soccer team. The trio will head a Mules squad that hopes to build on a season in which it went 12-4-6 and earned a bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.


Mulford started 11 games in net for Muhlenberg last year in a season marred by injury after being named to the All-Region V third team in 2023. The senior totaled 40 saves on 50 shots for an 80% save mark in those 11 contests and started the season hot, allowing just two goals in the team's first five contests. For his career, Mulford's totaled 20 shutouts in 51 matches, including five last season. 


While Mulford has served as the Mules' anchor in net, Roberts has held it down on the back line, anchoring the defense over his first two seasons in Allentown. He's coming off a season in which he became the first Muhlenberg player to make all-region as a freshman and sophomore since the 1986-87 campaigns. Despite having back-line duties, Roberts still contributed to his team's scoring in 2024 with three goals and 10 points; both of those marks ranked third on the team. Of those three tallies, none were bigger than his strike that tied the Centennial Conference championship game with 5:35 to go. 


Scuro, a senior, enters this year with 22 career appearances and started the first 12 matches in 2024 before falling victim to a season-ending injury. Despite that, he set career highs in starts and minutes while playing as a backer. This is his second go at being a team captain after doing so at Northern Valley Demarest High School. Scuro also studied abroad in Florence, Italy, during the spring semester. 


The Mules begin their quest back to the Centennial Conference championship game on August 29, when they take on Alvernia at 7 p.m.
