Just two weeks before the Centennial Conference Championships, the Muhlenberg track and field teams had another strong showing at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
Sophomore
Mike Powel had an outstanding meet in the throws, setting personal bests in both the shot put (a regional-qualifiyng 47-3¾) and the weight throw (47-6). He improved by almost two feet in the weight throw and placed third among Division III athletes, one spot behind senior
Dylan DeMagistris, who threw 48-0.
Another thrower, junior
Erica Borbi (pictured above left), set a personal best of 42-7 in the weight throw.Â
Other field athletes of note included freshman
Bryce Rhodeman, who won the high jump at 6-0¾ (the 10th-best performance in program history); sophomores
Shira Gamson (second) and
Niki Matthews (tied for seventh), who both placed in the long jump; and senior
JJ Ramirez-Rojas, who came in 10th in the long jump.
On the track, freshman
David Seel ran the mile in 4:20.17 to place eighth among Division III runners and land in ninth place on the Mules' all-time performance list. Another first-year,
Christopher Short (pictured above right), tied for the 10th-best 200 time (23.34) all-time.Â
Seel and Short also ran on the 4x400 team, along with freshman
Sultan Almosbeh and junior
Joshua Castro, that placed sixth.
Muhlenberg's hurdlers continued to shine, with freshman
Maya Richwine posting a regional-qualifying time and coming in third among Division III athletes and senior
Sam McDonough clocking in at 8.71 seconds, just .01 off the school record he set last week.
