We now travel to France to catch up with track and field junior Kaci Gregory. She is currently abroad in Aix-en Provence, France, at the Institute for American Universities (IAU College). She is a double major in media & communication and French & Francophone studies. Here is her report on her time abroad.
Have you visited any other countries?
My course load has definitely kept me busy over the past couple months but I've still managed to take some pretty exciting trips, specifically to Paris, Barcelona and Berlin! I loved every place I visited, because every place has its own history and culture. However, if I had to choose, I'd say Paris was my favorite - mainly because it's always been a dream of mine to visit the Eiffel Tower. Also as a French student, it's incredible to see everything that you've only read about in textbooks for years, finally come to life.
What classes are you taking?
I am taking five classes, all of them very different and serving their own special purpose. I am taking my French Honors Seminar course, the study of education and the acquisition of knowledge, Translation & Structure, Film Analysis of French Cinema and the Introduction to Francophone Studies. The latter I am taking with all Muhlenberg students and the course is taught by Muhlenberg French professor Eileen McEwan. All of my courses are taught in French, as I'm a part of the French Honors Program. My favorite class would have to be Translation & Structure, because it has helped me tremendously in terms of my French literacy. Also, I enjoy learning new expressions in French.
Are you happy that you studied abroad for the semester?
I am very pleased with my decision to travel abroad and each day I learn something new. I have significantly grown as a person upon coming here. My perspective on the world, taking into account different worldviews, has made a mark on me indefinitely. If you never thought about traveling abroad, I highly recommend it!
