Women's Soccer in Argentina Part 2

The Muhlenberg women's soccer team continued its preseason trip to Argentina with a pair of games, and more empanadas.

Monday we had time in the morning to explore some of the city near our hotel. After that we got on our bus and headed to Genevieve's for lunch right next to La Bombonera!

La Bombonera is one of the most famous stadiums in world soccer, housing the professional team La Boca. We toured the city of La Boca, which is a colorful, historic, and artistic neighborhood. It is the heart of Argentinian soccer culture.

After spending the afternoon in the beautiful town, we headed to our second practice at Campo de Deportes CAB. After practice we headed to the hotel and got to experience a bombos [Argentine folk drum] and folklore show with a side of empanadas. The performers put on an impressive show and after taught all of us, including our coaches, their skills.

On Tuesday we had free time in the morning to explore and get a pregame meal. Then we transferred to EDLP facilities where we played Los Estudiantes de la Plata. We put up a good fight and had a great goal by Katie Wolf off of a free kick. At the end of the game we received a beautiful gift from the other team and took pictures and hung out with them!

After a quick lunch at EDLP, we headed to Estadio Uno for dinner! We ate in the stadium's restaurant and were lucky enough to get field level seats to watch the EDLP match. It was an electric atmosphere with an incredible crowd chanting the entire game.

Wednesday we woke up and had a city tour of Puerto Madero. It was a beautiful, modern waterfront district with striking architecture and the Puente de la Mujer, or the Women's Bridge. From there we headed to lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. We then transferred to the CAB facilities for our second game. We played Banfield and had a goal scored by Kaylie Thran, assisted by Madelyn Hill!

We traded jerseys with the other team and took a bunch of pictures with our new friends. We then went back to the hotel to watch and learn the tango!
