On the day before a major snowstorm was due to hit the area, the Muhlenberg track and field teams combined for a flurry of personal bests at Franklin & Marshall's Coach I Invitational.
Sophomore
Sean McNeil had his second straight outstanding meet, winning the high jump and placing second in the triple jump. In the latter event, McNeil broke the school record of 46-8 he set last year, hitting the sand at 47-2½ to move up to eighth place on the all-time Centennial Conference list.
The Mules were superb in the short races, qualifying an athlete for the final in all four:
• In the women's 60-meter hurdles, senior
Niki Matthews finished third, running 9.76 in the qualifying heat and a personal-best 9.68 in the final. That time moved her from 10th to eighth on the Mules' all-time performance list.
• In the women's 60 meters, junior
Maya Richwine lowered the personal best she set last week from 8.12 to 8.05 in the prelims, then knocked it down to 8.04 in finishing fourth in the final. Richwine, who also placed third in the 200 meters, is closing in on the 13-year-old school record of 8.00.
• Junior
Christopher Short parelleled Richwine's clocking in the men's 60, knocking a hundredth of a second off his time from the heats (7.08) to the final (7.07). He placed fourth and jumped from 10th to second on the program's all-time performance list. Just moments after running in the 60 final, Short finished third in the 400.
• Freshman
Reese Davis improved his personal best in the 60-meter hurdles from 8.98 to 8.84, moving into second place on the all-time performance list. Davis
(pictured above left) came in sixth in the hurdles and also won his heat of the 200.
Other meet highlights included:
• Senior
Matthew Hajel placed fourth with the 10th-fastest 5000 time in program history (15:34.61).
• Freshman
Michael Bugler finished fifth in the long jump.
• With his name on everyone's mind, junior
Jaden Snow came in third in the high jump and ninth in the long jump.
• Two volleyball players made their mark: Sophomore
Kelly Stephen improved her personal best in the weight throw more than 14 feet from 24-2½ to 38-5½, moving into fifth place on the performance list. Classmate
Abigail Oswari (pictured above right) made Centennial Conference qualifying marks in both the high jump and long jump in her Muhlenberg track and field debut.
