Freshman
Sylvyn Parham placed fifth at 110, while sophomore
Kelsey Gelb came in fourth at 160.
Parham twice came back from four-point deficits to tie her opening match but conceded three points in the final minute to drop an 11-8 decision. She came back to win her final two bouts, building a 10-0 lead in only 99 seconds for her 10th technical fall of the season before overcoming yet another 4-0 deficit to capture the fifth-place match, 12-4.Â
Parham now has a record of 16-3 this season.
Gelb, seeded first, opened her tournament with three straight first-period pins - the first against the same East Stroudsburg opponent she pinned in the regional qualifier last year to earn a trip to nationals. It was her 20th career pin, and it came in her 39th match. After dropping her semifinal bout, Gelb
(pictured above) was tied 4-4 with a minute left in the third-place bout before getting pinned late,Â
Sophomore
Karla Lazaro also picked up a win at 160, pinning her opponent in the first minute.
