After earning a bid to the first NCAA Championships in women's wrestling, Muhlenberg freshman
Sylvyn Parham earned something else - a national ranking.
Parham is ranked 14th in the country at 110 pounds by The Open Mat. The national ranking is the first ever for the Mule women's wrestling program, in its second year of existence.
Parham punched her ticket to the national meet, scheduled for March 6-7 at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa, by going 4-1 at the regional qualifier meet. In the consolation final, with a bid to nationals at stake, Parham defeated an Ursinus wrestler who had been nationally ranked on criteria.
For the season, Parham is 25-5, setting program records for wins in a season and wins by technical superiority (14).
Of her five losses, two are to the top two finishers at the regional, who are ranked first and seventh in the country, one is to another formerly nationally ranked opponent, and another is to a non-collegiate wrestler who is a world bronze medalist.
Brackets for the NCAA Championships will be revealed on Friday at 1:00 Eastern on ncaa.com.
