Diakite Named Player of the Week

Muhlenberg men's soccer sophomore Saleem Diakite was named Centennial Conference offensive player of the week.

Diakite scored two breakaway goals in the final 10 minutes to lead the Mules to a 4-2 win against Gettysburg. His first goal, with 9:58 remaining, broke a 2-2 tie, and Diakite slipped behind the Bullet defense to score again with 26 seconds remaining.

Diakite, who came into the game with a career total of three goals, is the first Muhlenberg player since 1994 to score two goals in the last 10 minutes of a Centennial Conference game. Only three other Mules have scored twice in the final 10 minutes of regulation since the formation of the CC in 1993, and none had the impact on the game's result that Diakite did:

Saleem Diakite vs. Gettysburg, 2025 (4-2 win)
Noam Davidov vs. Misericordia, 2019 (4-1 win)
Joey Benner vs. Scranton, 2003 (7-0 win)
Tim Averell vs. Western Maryland, 1994 (4-0 win)

Diakite is the second Mule to be named CC player of the week this season, following Daniel Ariza, who was honored three weeks ago

Diakite's late-game heroics enabled Muhlenberg to remain undefeated at 5-0-4. It's the first time the Mules are undefeated through nine games since 2014, when they started 7-0-2 en route to a 15-2-3 season that ended in the "Sweet 16." In the last 30 years, the only better starts were in 2010 (started 9-0-6, finished 13-3-6 and made "Sweet 16") and 1995 (started 9-0-2, finished 16-1-4 and reached "Final Four."
