Mules' First Half Explosion Downs Widener

Saleem Diakite scored twice, Elie Khalil had three points, and the Muhlenberg Mules kept their unbeaten streak alive with a 3-1 defeat of the Widener Pride on Tuesday evening.

Diakite's first strike came just 7:15 into the contest. The play was started by Brady Sutton, who fed a driving Khalil, who then crossed it over to Diakite waiting in the box. The recipient then made a move to juke out the goalkeeper before putting it home for the 1-0 advantage. Sutton's assist was the freshman's first career point.

Khalil joined in on the scoring just five minutes later, corralling a bouncing ball in a scrum around the 18 and firing a shot into the lower left corner of the net. It was his fifth goal of the season, putting him in a tie for the team lead with Daniel Ariza.

Diakite would join those two at the top of the team's leaderboards not too long after that with his second goal of the day. Sutton again had a hand in this one, placing a perfect through pass on the foot of his streaking teammate, who only had to pass it around the netminder and into the net. It is the second time this year that Diakite has scored twice, as he did so against Gettysburg on September 27.

The Mules remain unbeaten with a record of 8-0-6. That's just one short of the school record set in 2010, when they began the season 9-0-6. In fact, Muhlenberg hasn't lost a regular season contest in over a year. The Mules sport a record of 12-1-9 over the previous 365 days, with that loss coming to Stevens in the NCAA Tournament.

Muhlenberg's scoreless streak ended at 466 minutes after the Pride scored in the 83rd minute of this contest. Senior goalkeeper Taye Edwards played the final 18 minutes in net in lieu of Ben Mulford. It was his first appearance since September 14, 2022, against DeSales, a span of 1,127 days.
