Muhlenberg athletes are spending the summer of 2025 enjoying fantastic experiences on campus, in their hometowns, and across the country.

Rising junior men's lacrosse player Michael Chimics, a double major in accounting and finance, took advantage of a jobs fair at Muhlenberg to land a summer internship with Magellan Financial Inc., where he learned the ins and outs of the financial advisory process.

At Magellan Financial, I have actively been involved in investment planning, investment/stock research, assisting financial advisors with analysis, and strategy development. I also have taken on projects that involve portfolio evaluation, investment modeling, and asset allocation and have had the opportunity to sit in on client meetings and see relationship managers interact with clients to build trust and develop tailored financial strategies and solutions.

I attended the "Meet the Firms" job fair at Muhlenberg in late February and this was where I found the opportunity for an internship role at Magellan Financial. I felt that this was a can't-miss opportunity close to home because I have gained a strong interest in studying financial markets, analyzing market trends, and assessing how these factors affect portfolio performance in the short, intermediate, and long-run.

I also chose to intern at Magellan Financial because I wanted to learn more about client needs assessment and the overall prices in advising clients on financial circumstances. What drew me to Magellan Financial was their commitment to working for the clients' best interest. The culture, respect, and relationships that the team at Magellan Financial brings towards their clients is what makes my role as an intern extremely enjoyable.

Courses like Investments and Portfolios, Corporation Finance, and others provided me with a terrific foundation for the work that I do at Magellan Financial. Muhlenberg helped provide me with the information that got me off on the right foot with my current role at Magellan, and I have been able to expand my knowledge. I plan to continue expanding my knowledge as I return for the fall semester.

I am extremely grateful for the incredible mentors that have helped me along the way. I was put right into the working environment, and each member of the team has provided me with incredible opportunities to help me enhance my skills, not only from a financial perspective, but also from a communication perspective. I have truly gained a great appreciation for building relationships and putting client interest first.

Magellan has shown me the ins and outs of the financial advisory process, and the opportunity to work closely with each team member is something that I am extremely grateful for. All in all, being able to intern close to home and expand on the knowledge I have gained from Muhlenberg has been an incredible experience.
