Men's Track and Field

Relay Team Breaks Record Again

For the second year in a row, the Muhlenberg men's track and field team kicked off the last day of the Centennial Conference Championships with a record performance in the rain.

The Mule foursome of sophomores Maxwell Broadbent, Bryce Rhodeman, Christopher Short, and Isaac Schaffer-Neitz won the gold medal in the 4x100 with a conference, meet, and school-record time of 41.33 seconds. The quartet broke the school and CC mark of 41.61 that they set just last weekend and eclipsed the meet record of 41.90 set last year, when all but Broadbent were members of the gold-winning relay team.

Muhlenberg wound up finishing fifth in the team standings, just a point out of fourth place. The Mule women came in eighth, a one-place improvement from last year.

The relay gold was the only one of the meet for the Mules, but the men brought home medals in seven events. Short added a pair of bronzes in the 400 and 4x400, while freshman Sean McNeil scored his second medal of the meet (to go along with the high jump silver he won on Saturday) by finishing third in the triple jump, one place ahead of Broadbent.

Sophomore David Seel, who earned bronze as a member of the 4x400 team, turned in an impressive performance in the 800 to win silver. His time of 1:51.76 was the second-fastest in program history, eclipsed only by a mark that has stood since 2003.

Graduate student Noel House earned a medal in the javelin for the fourth straight year, taking bronze.

House and junior Mike Powel (fourth in the shot put) were the only upperclassmen to score points in open events for the men's team; all other placewinners were freshmen or sophomores.

The women's team was led by sophomore Maya Richwine and junior Shira Gamson. Richwine earned a silver medal in the 100 hurdles while also placing sixth in the 200, seventh in the 100 and fourth with the 4x100 team. Gamson, who anchored the 4x100 relay, earned her first career medal (after two previous fourth-place finishes) by coming in third in the triple jump.
