A silver medal in the high jump and outstanding qualifying performances highlighted the first full day of the Centennial Conference Championships for the Muhlenberg track and field teams.
Freshman
Sean McNeil captured the silver in the high jump, clearing 6-2 on his first attempt. The medal was the first for McNeilÂ
(pictured above left), who just missed at the indoor championships, placing fourth in both the high jump and triple jump.
Also placing for the Mule men's team was the 4x800-meter relay team of sophomores
Marc Sebastian Montalvo andÂ
Raam Ravishankar, junior
Matthew Hajel, and sophomore
David Seel, who finished fifth with a time of 7:59.41.
Seel qualified for Sunday's final in the open 800, and sophomores
Isaac Schaffer-Neitz (100) and
Christopher Short (200 and 400) also posted qualifying times. Short ran the second-fastest time in program history in both events, 21.78 in the 200 and 48.91 in the 400. The former time was the fastest ever recorded by a Muhlenberg runner in the 200 meters; the school record is a converted time from the 220-yard dash in 1931. Schaffer-Neitz ran a person best of 10.91, the fifth-best in program history and the best by a Mule since 2016.
Sophomore
Maya Richwine qualified for the final in the 100, 200, and 100 hurdles, winning her heat in each event. She posted the fastest qualifying time in the hurdles, running a personal best of 14.70.Â
Junior
Niki Matthews also qualified for the hurdles final with a personal best of 15.89 that ranks ninth on the performance list. And although neither qualified for the final, both Matthews (sixth, 12.87) and junior
Lauren Siesky (10th, 13.00) ran personal bests in the 100 and entered the top 10 on the all-time performance list.
FreshmenÂ
Caitlyn D'Addieco (sixth) and
Kelly Stephen (seventh) both placed in the discus, while freshman
Ella Sarnitsky tied for eighth in the pole vault, tying her personal best, and junior
Shira Gamson set a personal record of 17-3½ (fourth on the all-time performance list) to finish seventh in the long jump.
The all-senior 4x800 relay team ofÂ
Hadley DeVarennes,
Erin Jackson,
Lauren House, and
Ellen Maguire came in sixth.
