The Muhlenberg track and field teams opened their outdoor season at two sites where they faced tough competition.
On Thursday, graduate student
Noel House competed in the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State. The 2024 All-American finished 13th out of 32 competitors in the javelin with a throw of 192-0. House was one of only two Division III throwers in the event.
House joined the rest of his teammates two days later at Lafayette and finished second in the javelin, once again throwing further than many Division I athletes.
The highest placer for the Mules at Lafayette was freshman
Sean McNeil, who won the high jump in his outdoor collegiate debut. His height of 6-4¼ ranks ninth on the program's all-time performance list.
Leading the placewinners for the women's team was junior
Shanice Williams. She came in first among collegiate athletes, and second overall, in the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 36-6¾, which ranks third on the performance list, within seven inches of the school record.
Freshman
Kelly Stephen entered the performance list in two throwing events in her first outdoor meet, placing fifth in the discus at 123-5 (also fifth on the performance list) and ninth in the shot put at 35-5¾ (tied for seventh on the performance list).
Coming off her appearance in the NCAA Indoor Championships, sophomore
Maya Richwine ran the fifth-fastest 100 in program history (12.75), placing sixth. Junior
Niki Matthews ran 13.15 in the same event, just missing the top 10 on the performance list.
Matthews also achieved a personal best of 16-7 in the long jump, finishing sixth, one spot behind classmate
Shira Gamson (pictured above right).
Freshman
Rashaun McQueen entered the performance list in the hammer in ninth place with a mark of 110-4.
Also placing in the top eight for Muhlenberg were juniors
Avery McNulty, fourth in the high jump, and
Mike Powel (pictured above left), eighth in the shot put.
