The first varsity season in Muhlenberg women's wrestling history will end at the national championships.
Freshman
Kelsey Gelb qualified for the NCWWC Championships, scheduled for March 7-8 in Coralville, Iowa, by placing fourth at 160 at the Region 2 qualifier meet at East Stroudsburg.
Gelb
(pictured above) had the misfortune of drawing the top seed, who is ranked fifth in the country, in the first round and was pinned. But she won her first two consolation bouts, one on a first-period pin and one on criteria after her bout ended in a 2-2 tie, with Gelb scoring a takedown for her two points.Â
Gelb dropped her next bout and needed to win two more to earn the national bid. She did, pinning both of her opponents. With the bid on the line, she used a lat drop to pin an East Stroudsburg opponent who had pinned her at the Ursinus Open last month.Â
Gelb will bring a record of 21-10, with 16 of her wins coming on pins, into the national tournament.
