Postcards from Abroad: Sarah Theurer

For the first Postcards from Abroad of the spring semester, we travel to Florence, Italy, where Sarah Theurer of the women's soccer team is studying. She is a double major in accounting and finance and she has been enjoying her time overseas.

What school are you studying at, and where else have you traveled during the semester. Do you plan to travel anywhere else during the remainder of the semester as well?
Currently I am studying at Florence University of the Arts, or FUA for short. When I first arrived in Italy, SAI Programs took all of the Muhlenberg students to Rome, so I was there for three days. After staying in Florence for a week or two, I traveled to Amsterdam with all of my roommates! The next week we went to Bologna, Italy, for a free trip that was very fun. Since those trips, I have been to Interlaken (Switzerland) to go skiing in the Swiss Alps, as well as Venice, Budapest (Hungary), Vienna (Austria) and Salzburg (Austria).

Every country and city I have been to so far were beautiful! For spring break, I am going to Athens, Corfu and Santorini in Greece. A few other trips I have planned are going to Munich (Germany), Croatia and the Amalfi Coast in Italy! I have been trying to travel as much as I possibly can because I won't be able to do this again.

What classes are you taking, and which is your favorite/why?
At FUA, I am taking Lifetime Fitness and Nutrition, Photography, Everything Chocolate and Italian. My favorite class out of the four that I am taking is my photography class. I like this class because we are working with the manual mode of the camera, and I am learning several new techniques!

Have you gotten any opportunities to play or practice your sport while abroad?
Since being abroad, I have not had much of an opportunity to play soccer because I have been so busy traveling. Instead, I have been going to the gym to run and lift so I can keep in shape for the fall season. I am also going to a soccer game in April, so that will be a lot of fun!

What is the main reason you decided to go abroad and what has been the best experience of the semester?
The main reason I decided to go abroad was to experience a new country and to meet new people. I have wanted to study abroad since I was in high school, so I am glad I have had the opportunity to do so! The best experience I have had so far this semester was definitely meeting my roommates. I went into going abroad a little nervous because I didn't know if I would get along with them. Since being here, they have exceeded my expectations and have become some of my best friends! My favorite trip that I have been on so far was going to Switzerland because it was the most beautiful place I have ever been to!

What do you miss most about being on the Muhlenberg campus?
I think I miss walking around campus with all of my friends the most and just hanging out in the Light Lounge, whether I am doing work or not.

What would you like to say to your teammates back in Allentown?
Hey LKM!!!! I miss you all so much you have no idea! I hope your semesters are going great, and I can't wait to see some of you in May when I come back! I hope spring season goes well and that you'll enjoy waking up crazy early for it! Keep killing it and have some fun for me. I also want to say congratulations to Tattie on her new coaching position! I know she will do an amazing job, and I will miss her greatly! Love you sisters!!!
