Postcards from Abroad journeys to Copenhagen, Denmark, to catch up with Michael Rainone of the Muhlenberg men's track & field team.
How have your classes been while abroad?
I am taking four classes abroad. They are Health Delivery and Prioritization, Healthcare Strategies for At-Risk Populations, Healthcare Economics and Policy, and History of Epidemic Disease in Europe. My favorite class is definitely Health Delivery and Prioritization because it gives you hands-on experience almost every week. Thus far I have gotten a chance to visit multiple Danish hospitals, municipalities, maternity wards, universities and general practitioners.

Have you been able to travel at all?
As of right now, I haven't been outside of Denmark, but I have been all over the country, east coast to west coast. Come the end of October I will have visited Finland and Estonia as part of one of my classes, and Italy just for fun.
What has been your favorite part about being abroad?
My favorite part about being abroad is definitely the commute to class. It brings about an element that Muhlenberg doesn't really have. Copenhagen forces you to either learn how to properly navigate bike traffic or learn the public transit.
Have you gotten any time to prepare for your sport while you have been overseas?
I've been lifting for track ever since I got here. Consistently staying on top of conditioning is key so you can build off of it come January. The bigger the base, the higher the pyramid will build.
What do you miss most about Muhlenberg?
I absolutely miss the dining hall. Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with cooking (I actually love cooking), but you don't know what you have until it's gone. We're blessed to have such a great place to eat.
What is one or a few reasons that helped you decide that you wanted to go abroad?
The school I attend (DIS Copenhagen) is known for its public health program. On top of that, I've had teammates that pushed for me to go abroad in general. I just couldn't pass it up because they were so enthusiastic.
