The Muhlenberg tennis teams made it 4-0 on their Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, both scoring 5-2 wins against Penn State Behrend.
The women used their depth to defeat a Behrend squad that came in with a record of 10-1 and won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship in the fall. The Lions won at first doubles and first and second singles, but the Mules (3-1) prevailed in the other six matches.
Senior
Caitlin Bestrycki (pictured above left) keyed the win by pulling out two close matches, 6-4 with junior
Charley Madlock at No. 2 doubles and in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles.Â
Muhlenberg's 3-1 start is its best since 2010.
The men swept the doubles and won four of the five completed singles matches in straight sets. Senior
Gabriel Tamarkin (pictured above right) dropped a total of only three games in winning at both doubles and singles on his birthday, and freshman
Casey Knipe, playing No. 1 doubles for the first time in his career, teamed up with junior
William Rose for a 6-4 win.
