Summer Check-In: Sophia Sciarrino

Muhlenberg athletes are spending the summer of 2025 enjoying fantastic experiences on campus, in their hometowns, and across the country.

Rising sophomore cross country/track and field runner Sophia Sciarrino is enjoying a colorful summer as an intern in Crayola's marketing department.

This summer, I'm interning with the brand content team in Crayola's marketing department. It has been such a fun and creative experience. I've been doing everything from setting up lighting and recording equipment to creating social media content, taking headshots, designing banner ads, and even photographing products for retailers like Amazon and Walmart.

One of the coolest moments so far? Having content I created posted on Crayola's social media for thousands to see.

I chose this internship because I've always loved visual storytelling, and Crayola is such an iconic brand known for creativity and imagination. It felt like the perfect place to blend my interests in media, design, and marketing. Every day is different; one day I might be creating templates in InDesign or designing advertisements in Photoshop, and the next I'm on set for a content shoot or researching new craft ideas for the Crayola website.

What I've loved most is being part of a team that truly values creativity and collaboration. I've gotten to sit in on meetings with the marketing and communications team, shadow professional photo shoots, and even conduct my own! It's an honor to contribute to real projects that are seen by thousands of people. Knowing my work will be on actual packaging for products sold in stores world wide has been a surreal full-circle moment.

This experience has definitely helped me grow both creatively and professionally. I've improved my Photoshop skills, learned a new side of photography, and I've built a portfolio I'm really proud of. My classes at Muhlenberg, especially in the media and communication and studio art fields, gave me a solid foundation for this work. I also owe a lot of thanks to the amazing programs my high school allowed me to partake in to prepare me for this.

Overall, it's been an awesome summer so far: colorful, fast-paced, and super inspiring. I'm excited to keep learning and creating through the rest of my time here!
