The Muhlenberg cross country teams competed at Rowan's Border Battle in their final tuneup for championship season.
The Mules' lone remaining meets are the Centennial Conference Championships at Gettysburg in two weeks and the regional meet at the same Rowan course two weeks after that.Â
Five runners on the two Muhlenberg teams ran personal-best times.Â
For the women, junior
Maggie Holderith (pictured above left) was the second Mule finisher with a time of 24:28.7, topping her clocking of 24:52.4 at the same meet two years ago. Right behind her was junior
Ella Borello, whose 24:53.9 took more than 35 seconds off her previous best of 25:30.3, set at the Paul Short Run two weeks ago.
Senior
Jem Berney, who finished in under 24 minutes for the first time in her career at Paul Short, broke the barrier again, crossing the line in 23:46.5 to place in the top third of the 295 finishers.
Senior
Julia Tassone, Muhlenberg's sixth finisher, ran a season-best time. The Mules finished ahead of Centennial Conference rival Ursinus for the third time this season.
For the men, all five finishers notched season or career bests. Freshmen
Niklas Haraldsson (second on the Mules) and
Alex Stefaniak (fourth) lowered their personal bests by 22 seconds and 45 seconds to 29:07.8 and 29:59.7, respectively.Â
Sophomore
Jake Restivo (pictured above right), Muhlenberg's fifth finisher, knocked an impressive 1:39 off the time he ran at Paul Short, finishing in 34:53.2.
Senior
Andrew Smolowitz, who was the first Mule across the line, and junior
TJ Cook Jr. both ran season-best times.
