The Muhlenberg women's basketball team ended its 2021-22 season with an impressive 71-57 win at Washington College.
The Mules (11-14, 7-13) broke away from a third-quarter tie to defeat the playoff-bound Shorewomen (16-9, 12-8) by 14 points in the second meeting for the teams this week. Washington entered the game ranked third in Division III in field-goal percentage defense and had not given up more than 70 points in a game all season.Â
Senior
Margaux Eripret recorded her third straight double-double to end the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for Muhlenberg were junior
Sara Peretti (12) and seniors
Tara Szawaluk (12) and
Amanda Gorski (10).
Freshman
Ava Connolly tied her career high in both points (8) and assists (7).
A three-point play by Eripret and a layup by Peretti (off a steal by freshman
Rachel Saxton) in the final 30 seconds of the first half sent Muhlenberg into the break with a 33-29 lead.Â
The Mules scored the first three points of the second half to extend their margin to seven, but the Shorewomen used back-to-back threes to draw even at 37-all.
It was tied at 39 with less than four minutes to play in the third quarter before freshman
Emily Vaughan knocked down a three-pointer to give Muhlenberg the lead for good. The Mules held Washington to one field goal the rest of the quarter, ending on a 13-2 run to open up a double-digit lead for the first time.Â
The Shorewomen never cut the gap to single digits in the fourth quarter as the Mules shot 50 percent from the field.
Eripret scored 11 of her 16 points in the second half on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Szawaluk
(pictured above) ended her career by scoring in double figures for the second straight game, while Gorski hit double figures for the third time in her last six games.
