The Muhlenberg women's basketball team battled back from an 10-point second-half deficit to force overtime before losing to Washington College, 73-61.
Senior
Amanda Gorski made a dramatic game-tying layup with three-tenths of a second remaining in regulation as part of her career-best 15-point performance. She was one of several Mules to put up big numbers:
• Senior
Margaux Eripret recorded a double-double with 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
• Sophomore
Caroline Horst made her first five field-goal attempts and finished with a career-high 10 points.
• Senior
Tara Szawaluk dished out a career-high 9 assists.
• Freshman
Emily Vaughan scored 10 points.
The Shorewomen (16-8, 12-7) took a 10-point lead in the first minute of the second half before the Mules (10-13, 6-12) began their comeback. They trailed by five, 45-40, after three quarter and tied the game when Vaughan scored the first five points of the fourth quarter.
The teams went back-and-forth down the stretch, with Washington taking a 53-51 lead at the 2:10 mark on a three-point play and Muhlenberg gaining the lead back when Szawaluk hit a three with just under a minute to play.
The score was tied at 55 before the Shorewomen hit a pair of free throws with 6.7 seconds left. After a timeout, Muhlenberg inbounded the ball from in front of its bench. Vaughan missed a tough baseline jumper and Eripret's follow-up missed, but Gorski grabbed the offensive rebound and calmly made a layup to send the game into overtime.
Jumpers by Gorski and Eripret gave the Mules a 61-59 lead in the first minute of the extra period, but they did not score again as Washington closed the game on a 14-0 run.
Freshman
Ava Connolly came off the bench to dish out 5 assists in the first of two games between the two teams this week.
