For the sixth time in his career, Muhlenberg senior
Dan Gaines was named Centennial Conference men's basketball player of the week.
Gaines scored 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting in the Mules' season-opening 94-71 win against Moravian. He also pulled down nine rebounds, dished out six assists and added two steals without committing a turnover in 29 minutes.
The preseason All-American netted 12 points in each half and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field in the second half. After the Greyhounds took a 33-32 lead late in the first half, Gaines contributed four points and three rebounds to a 10-2 run that sent Muhlenberg into the break with a seven-point lead. He added 10 points in a 24-2 second-half run that turned an eight-point game into a runaway.
It was the fifth time in his career that Gaines has recorded at least five assists without a turnover.
