Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Season Ends in Heartbreak

In a win-and-in regular-season finale, it was McDaniel earning the final spot in the Centennial Conference men's basketball playoffs with a 52-49 win against Muhlenberg.

Trailing by three, the Mules (12-13, 5-8) inbounded the ball under their basket with 4.1 seconds left. Senior Drew Greene, who made a pair of baskets at the shot-clock buzzer in the first half, dribbled the length of the court and put up an off-balance three-point shot with his left hand as time was expiring. The ball went off the backboard and off the front rim before bounding away.

The game was everything a de facto playoff game should be, with every point closely contested. Neither team led by more than three points the entire second half, which featured 12 lead changes.

Sophomore Drew Buck scored seven straight Muhlenberg points in the final five minutes, giving the Mules the lead on all three of his baskets, the last at 47-46 with 2:16 left.

The Green Terror (16-9, 6-7) made one of two free throws with 1:53 on the clock to tie the score, and 16 seconds later, sophomore Jack Woodard drained two free throws to put Muhlenberg up 49-47.

McDaniel hit a three from the corner on its next possession to take the lead for good.

After a Mule miss, Greene drew a charge at the other end - his third drawn charge of the game - to win possession back with 26.2 seconds left. Muhlenberg turned the ball over, however, and was forced to foul, and the Green Terror made two free throws with 4.1 on the clock.

Greene, Buck, and Woodard each finished with 10 points for the Mules, while junior Peter Stanton-Shepherd contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds.

Prior to the game, the Mules honored their seniors - Matt Lee, Nate Hoffman, and Greene - pictured above with their families and head coach Kevin Hopkins.
