The Muhlenberg women's basketball team overcame a four-point halftime deficit to win its season opener at Cabrini, 67-57.
Senior
Mikaela McGarvey scored a team-leading 17 points, going 4-for-6 from three-point range. Junior
Sara Peretti added 13 points.
Trailing 32-28 at the break, the Mules opened the second half on an 11-0 run that began with a layup from Peretti and featured back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore
Abigail Scheidel - her first career points. A three by McGarveyÂ
(pictured above) capped the run, part of a stretch in which Muhlenberg held the Cavaliers without a field goal for 5:36.
McGarvey's third three-pointer, on Muhlenberg's first possession of the fourth quarter, extended to lead to double digits at 50-40. Cabrini got as close as six, at 59-53 around the four-minute mark, but the Mules stemmed the tide with an unusual three-point play with 2:45 left. Senior
Margaux Eripret made one free throw and missed the second, but senior
Tori Dowd grabbed the offensive rebound, leading to a basket by Peretti.
Cabrini made only one field goal the rest of the game.
Eripret finished with 7 points and 8 rebounds, while Dowd dished out a career-high 6 assists to go along with her big rebound.
In addition to Scheidel, sophomore
Caroline Horst and freshmen
Emily Unger,
Emily Vaughan and
Jenna Stockfeder all scored their first career points. Unger made three three-pointers in the first half.Â
