Muhlenberg sophomores
Dan Gaines and
Margaux Eripret were named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization 2019-20 Team of the Year.
In addition, Gaines was selected by area coaches and media members as the Pete Nevins Player of the Year, joining Mark Lesko (2001 and 2002) , Jeff Stewart (2005) and Spencer Liddic (2012) as the only Mules to be named top small college player in the Lehigh Valley.
"Dan does just about everything for our team," said head coach
Kevin Hopkins. "He's got the most minutes, he's top 10 in our league in scoring, assists, steals, field-goal percentage, three-point field-goal percentage, free-throw percentage, assists to turnovers – if I had one gripe, I think he only has like three blocked shots on the year.
"He's the ultimate lead-by-example guy. We throw him out there for as close to 40 minutes a game as we can and he gives us everything he has."
Gaines averages 15.9 points per game and has scored in double figures in 19 of Muhlenberg's 23 games. His 109 assists are the most by a Mule in 22 years, and he is the first Muhlenberg player with 350 points and 100 assists in a season since 1972.
The 2019 Centennial Conference rookie of the year has been named CC player of the week twice this season.
Eripret is averaging 8.7 points and a team-leading 5.5 rebounds per game. She also is second on the team in field-goal percentage (.443) and blocked shots (11) and is third in steals (22).
"Margaux has been such an important part of our team this year. She really does everything for us," said head coach
Ron Rohn. "She's our most consistent rebounder, she's our most consistent scorer, scoring inside, scoring outside. She defends post players and perimeter players.
"As a sophomore she's made the exact progression that you would like a basketball player to make, getting stronger in her sophomore year and then stepping forward into a real leadership role. Margaux does everything it takes for our team to win and be good night and night out."
