Junior tight end
Ryan Curtiss and senior cornerback
Nate Corvil of the Muhlenberg football team were named
preseason All-Americans by D3football.com.
Curtiss landed on the first team, while Corvil was a third-team selection.
Curtiss was named to the 2017 D3football.com All-America third team after catching 39 passes for 509 yards and six touchdowns in his first year at Muhlenberg. His six TD catches tied for seventh in Division III among players listed as tight ends. Curtiss, who also tied a CC record for tight ends with 11 receptions vs. Johns Hopkins, is the first Mule named to the D3football.com preseason All-America first team since another tight end, Michael Long, in 2014.
Corvil is coming off a junior season in which he was selected to the D3football.com All-South Region third team and All-Centennial Conference first team. He led the CC and tied for 17th in Division III with six interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. Corvil also led the Mules with six pass breakups and scored two additional touchdowns on recovered fumbles in the end zone. He added 47 tackles (34 solo), including three for loss, and a forced fumble.Â
The preseason All-America honor is the second for both players.
Curtiss was previously recognized by Lindy's and
Corvil by Street & Smith's.
The Mules finished 2017 with an 8-3 record, winning the ECAC Asa S. Bushnell Bowl with a 32-6 defeat of Carnegie Mellon. It was the eighth straight winning season for the Mules, who are one of just 12 teams in Division III to have won at least eight games each of the last six years.Â
Muhlenberg, ranked ninth in Division III in the Lindy's preseason poll, is scheduled to open its 2018 campaign with a home game against Dickinson on Saturday, September 8.
