Senior Nate Corvil of the Muhlenberg football team was named to the Street & Smith's Division III preseason All-America team.

One of four defensive backs cited in the magazine, Corvil is coming off a 2017 season in which he was selected to the D3football.com All-South Region third team and the All-Centennial Conference first team. He led the CC and tied for 17th in Division III with six interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. Corvil also led the Mules with six pass breakups and scored two additional touchdowns on recovered fumbles in the end zone. He added 47 tackles (34 solo), including three for loss, and a forced fumble. 

Among Division III players who were not seniors last year, Corvil is tied for ninth with 11 career interceptions. A two-year starter at cornerback, he also has accumulated 104 tackles, 11 pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and a blocked kick during his career.

Corvil was one of the key players on a defense that led the CC and ranked 12th in Division III against the run, allowing only 81.3 yards per game. Muhlenberg also held opponents under 20 points per game for the 18th consecutive season with a CC-best average of 17.1 points.

The Mules finished 2017 with an 8-3 record, winning the ECAC Asa S. Bushnell Bowl with a 32-6 defeat of Carnegie Mellon. It was the eighth straight winning season for the Mules, who are one of just 12 teams in Division III to have won at least eight games each of the last six years. 

Muhlenberg is scheduled to open its 2018 campaign with a home game against Dickinson on Saturday, September 8.
