Box Score Despite a big day by senior Jason Mertz, the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team fell at Washington College, 16-10.
Mertz
(pictured above) scored a game-high seven points on two goals and five assists. The point total was one short of the school record he tied last year, and the assist total was one short of the school record he set last year. There have been only four instances of a Mule recording at least five assists in a game, and Mertz is responsible for two of them.
The seven points gave Mertz 95 for his career, good for seventh on the Muhlenberg all-time list. He also moved into second place on the program's all-time list with 49 career assists.
Mertz assisted
Connor Winter on a goal and then scored one himself 23 seconds later midway through the first quarter, giving the Mules (3-6, 0-4) a 2-1 lead. But the defending Centennial Conference-champion Shoremen (5-5, 4-0) ran off the next five goals to pull ahead.
Muhlenberg had a run of five straight goals in the third and fourth quarters, with sophomore
Brad D'Alessandro scoring two of them to complete his third hat trick of the season. Senior
John Hetzel finished with two goals and an assist.
