Box Score Playing a true home game for the first time this season, the Muhlenberg baseball team lost to Ursinus, 3-1.
Pitchers
Nick Gies and
Ryan Banks combined on a five-hitter and gave up only one earned run. Gies
(pictured above) pitched the first seven innings, striking out five, and Banks worked a perfect eighth and ninth.
The Mules (6-10, 1-3) had baserunners in every inning but could not get the big hit. They finally pushed across a run in the seventh on an error and got the tying runs into scoring position before the inning ended on a groundout.
In the eighth, junior
Andrew Rava hit a pinch-hit double but was stranded at third. Muhlenberg put the tying runs on base in the ninth, but a diving catch by the Ursinus first baseman ended the game.
Senior
Michael Giordano reached base in three of five plate appearances with two singles and a walk.
The Mules played their first two "home games" at Diamond Nation and had others postponed or cancelled. The April 2 home opener was the latest for the team in 21 years.
