Late Runs Sink Baseball in First League DH

The Muhlenberg baseball team was close with Gettysburg until the late innings in both games of its Centennial Conference-opening doubleheader.

In the first game, the Mules (4-13, 0-2) trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth and 3-0 through seven before the 21st-ranked Bullets (19-3, 2-0) scored seven times in the eighth for a 10-0 win.

Muhlenberg led the second game, 4-2, through five-and-a-half. Gettysburg plated one in the sixth, three in the seventh to go ahead, and five in the eighth to put the game out of reach. The final was 11-4.

The Mules managed only six hits in the two games and did not get a runner past second base in the opener.

In the nightcap, a leadoff double by freshman Danny Cutrupi set the stage for a two-run second, with the runs coming in on a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single by sophomore Sean Habeeb.

Sophomore Steven Dimovski hit a sacrifice fly in the third to make it 3-0, and Muhlenberg combined two walks and two hit batters to bring home its fourth run in the sixth.

Junior Luke Foley (pictured above) pitched well in the second game against a Gettysburg squad that came in with a .361 team batting average (fifth in Division III). He allowed only two earned runs in five innings.
