Box Score Despite two record-tying performances, the Muhlenberg baseball team lost at Messiah, 12-7, in a game called in the top of the ninth due to rain and lightning.
Senior
Jimmy Cody tied a school record by homering for the third game in a row, and senior
Nick Kennedy tied a record of a different sort by getting hit by pitch for the 31st time in his career. Both happened in a five-run second that gave the Mules (5-6) a 6-0 lead, but the Falcons came back with eight runs in the next two innings.
Muhlenberg took a 1-0 lead three batters into the game when sophomore
John Icaza singled in senior
Michael Giordano, who had drawn a leadoff walk.
Kennedy singled to lead off the second, and after an error and a hit batsman loaded the bases, senior
Chris Manfredonia delivered a two-run single to make it 3-0.
Giordano followed with a bunt to put two runners in scoring position for Cody, although the way the centerfielder has been swinging the bat, he is always in scoring position. Cody blasted a three-run home run for his fourth round-tripper of the season. He became the fourth player in Muhlenberg history (the first since 2005) to go yard in three straight games.
The Mule offense slowed down after the second inning, however, plating only one more run on an RBI single by sophomore
Robbie Hopes in the fourth. The Falcons (4-7) hit four home runs to power their comeback win.
Icaza finished 3-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base.
With his 2-for-4 day, Cody
(pictured above) finished the game with 149 career hits and can become the eighth player in program history with 150 in Saturday's Centennial Conference-opening twinbill at Washington. He also is one away from becoming the
11th Mule to score 100 career runs.
