Box Score Despite hitting three home runs, the Muhlenberg baseball team lost to Eastern, 15-6, on a chilly night at Diamond Nation.
Playing for the first time in 10 days, the Mules (4-5) wasted no time finding their hitting stroke. Their second batter of the game, senior
Jimmy Cody (pictured above), belted a two-run homer. It was his fourth career round-tripper. Seniors
Nick Kennedy and
Nick Plinio added sacrifice flies later in the inning to give Muhlenberg a 4-0 lead.
The Eagles (2-7) took the lead with five runs in the third and increased their advantage to 8-4 in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the inning, Plinio and senior
Chris Manfredonia cut the deficit in half by hitting back-to-back homers. Plinio's was an impressive opposite-field shot to right-center, and Manfredonia followed with a blast over the fence in left for his first career home run.
The back-to-back homers were the first for Muhlenberg since a
2006 game against Hartwick that featured back-to-back
inside-the-park home runs.
Eastern took advantage of fielding miscues to break the game open with seven runs in the seventh and eighth.
