Box Score For the second time in four days, the young Muhlenberg men's basketball team put a scare into a seasoned and nationally ranked visiting Centennial Conference opponent. And for the second time, experience won out, as fifth-ranked Dickinson pulled away in the second half for a 90-78 win.
The Mules led the Red Devils, who reached the Division III "Elite 8" last year and had defeated their last three opponents by an average of 32.3 points, by seven points (49-42) early in the second half. But Dickinson (16-2, 9-2) scored the next 16 points and never led by fewer than five the rest of the way.
Freshman
Nick Rindock recorded his first career double-double with 19 points and a career-high 10 assists. He also had six rebounds and would surely have come close to a triple-double had there been more missed shots. Dickinson shot over 60 percent for the game, while the Mules (8-10, 3-8) connected at a 50.8-percent clip against a team that came in ninth in the country in field-goal percentage defense.
The Red Devils led by nine points early on and were up 24-17 midway through the first half before senior
Malique Killing stripped a ball-handler and fed sophomore
Brandon LaRose for an alley-oop dunk. That sparked Muhlenberg to a 9-0 run - which included a three-pointer by sophomore
Jon Schreer (pictured above) - and the lead. The teams traded points for the rest of the half, with the Mules taking a 44-42 lead into the break.
Rindock was only the second Mule to reach double figures in assists in a game since 1997. Killing and sophomore
John Hunter scored 13 points apiece, while freshman
Owen McLeod finished with 12.
