Men's Basketball Suffers One-Point Loss

Box Score

The Muhlenberg men's basketball team had its chances but ultimately lost a Centennial Conference heartbreaker at Washington College, 77-76.

Jon SchreerFreshman Owen McLeod hit a three from halfcourt at the halftime buzzer to send the Mules (7-8, 2-6) into the break up 40-32. Their lead got as big as 11 before the Shoremen (2-13, 2-6) ripped off 11 straight to tie it with 15:40 to play.

The rest of the second half was a seesaw battle, with the game remaining a one-possession contest for the next nine-plus minutes.

After Washington led by as many as six coming down the stretch, Muhlenberg closed the gap to one on two separate occasions, the last at 77-76 with 2:02 to play. The Mules took three more shots, plus a desperation heave at the final buzzer, but could not find the mark and suffered their fifth loss by five or fewer points.

Senior Malique Killing led all scorers with 21 points, 14 of which in the second half. The senior guard was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line, and now sits just 12 points away from the Muhlenberg career points record.

Freshman Nick Rindock was near perfect, shooting 7-for-8 from the field for 17 points. He made all three of his three-point attempts. Rindock (pictured above) was also the Mules' leading rebounder with six. Sophomore Brandon LaRose also had a high-efficiency game, going 7-of-8 from the field for 15 points. Sophomore Jon Schreer (pictured right) was the main setup main, dishing seven assists to go with his nine points.

Overall the Mules shot the ball very well, going 9-for-16 from beyond the arc, and shooting 60 percent from the field in the second half.
