Freshman Trio Rings in New Era in Muhlenberg Basketball

The Muhlenberg men's basketball program has added three members of the Class of 2030 to its roster for the upcoming season, head coach Quinn Newton announced Tuesday.

"We're fired up to welcome Caden, Chris, and Santiago to the Muhlenberg Basketball family," Newton said of the group. "I'm excited to get to work with these high-character young men. This is an exciting time for Muhlenberg basketball, and they will contribute immediately on and off the court."

The class consists of forward Santiago Dos Santos, point guard Caden Kopay, and guard/forward Chris Woodard. Dos Santos hails from Panama, where he resided for most of his life before coming to the United States a couple years ago. Kopay is from the Pittsburgh area, while Woodard, the younger brother of rising junior Jack Woodard, is from Malvern, Pa. The Woodards will form the second pair of brothers on the roster, along with Drew and Justin Buck.

The trio will look to offset the graduation of seniors Nate Hoffman, Drew Greene, and Matt Lee. That group totaled 34 starts and 53 games played for the Mules last season.

About Dos Santos: Dos Santos attended Colegio Real de Panamá until partway through the 11th grade, when he turned his many accolades into a basketball scholarship to come stateside and attend The Perkiomen School. The six-foot-six forward showed off his well-rounded game while playing for Perkiomen's prep and national teams as a senior, averaging 12 PPG, 8 RPG, and 4 APG and earning a spot on the honor roll.

Why Muhlenberg?: "I chose Muhlenberg because of its strong academic reputation and good basketball program. It is a university where I felt I would fit in very well, both academically and personally. I also appreciate the area where the college is located, as it is close to the high school I attended. Being a smaller college, Muhlenberg places a strong emphasis on each student's development and success, both in academics and athletics; I value the individual attention that students receive."

About Kopay: A Pittsburgh area native, Kopay helped Moon Area High School make the quarterfinals in the 5A PIAA Playoff Tournament last season as a point guard. He also earned his second varsity letter in 2025-26 and was a member of the Tigers' fifth WPIAL championship-winning team in 2023-24. His future plans include continuing his basketball career and becoming a math teacher and coach.

Why Muhlenberg?: "(It has a) good education system, is a smaller school, and for basketball."

Academic Interest: Business Administration

About Woodard: Woodard was a bucket-getting machine during his senior year at Great Valley High School, averaging 24 PPG and 6 RPG with a career-high of 41 points in a single game. Those prolific marks earned him a litany of awards: First Team All Ches-Mont American Division, a First Team All-Area nod from the Daily Local News, and a Third Team All-State nod from the PA Sportswriters, among others.

He can score at all three levels and excels from beyond the arc, where he knocked down 63 three-pointers in 2025-26. Woodard finished his career with 1,029 points, 574 of them coming last season. On Great Valley's banner of 1,000-point scorers, his name will be right below recent NBA Champion Mikal Bridges. Woodard's future plans include graduating from college and pursuing the possibility of playing professionally in Europe.
