Four members of the Muhlenberg softball team - including three freshmen - were named to the All-Region V team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The Mules' middle infield combo of sophomore
Ava Storlazzi (second base) and freshman
Josie Hoffacker (shortstop) each earned first-team honors, while freshman pitcher
Eden Clark and freshman outfielder
Sofia Gallahue landed on the second team.
It's only the second time in program history that Muhlenberg has placed four players on the all-region team; the other was 36 years ago in 1990. The last time the Mules had multiple all-region selections was 25 years ago in 2001, which was also the last time they had a true first-year player earn all-region recognition.
Storlazzi, a first-team All-Centennial Conference pick, is hitting .424 as the Mules' leadoff batter. She is 26-for-26 on stolen bases this season and is one of only nine players in Division III who has stolen more than 25 bases without getting caught. Storlazzi is fourth on the Mules in runs scored and is hitting .452 in her last 20 games, since returning from injury, with 10 multiple-hit contests.
Hoffacker also made the All-CC first team and also is perfect on stolen bases, going 29-for-29. She leads Muhlenberg in batting average (.426), walks (20), on-base percentage (.521), and sacrifices (7) and is second on the team with 38 runs scored. Among players in Region V, she ranks fourth in stolen bases and sixth in on-base percentage.
Clark, the CC rookie of the year, is 15-5 with a 2.40 ERA and one save in a team-leading 28 appearances. She has struck out 141 batters - the second-highest single-season total in program history - in 111 innings and held opponents to a .181 batting average. Clark leads the region and ranks in the top 10 in Division III in both strikeouts per seven innings and fewest hits allowed per seven innings.
Gallahue is hitting .408 with 32 RBI, leading the Mules and ranking seventh in the region with 60 hits - tied for the second-most in a season in program history. Gallahue also leads Muhlenberg in triples (5) and slugging percentage (.497) and has struck out only five times in 159 plate appearances. She had a 15-game hitting streak during the season and was named to the NCAA Medford Regional all-tournament team.
Muhlenberg is enjoying a historic season, going 35-11 to set a College record for wins in any sport and winning an NCAA Tournament regional for the first time in program history. The Mules, who have also set school records for hits, runs, stolen bases, shutouts, and strikeouts in a season, play defending national champion Trine in a best-of-three series this Thursday and Friday for the right to advance to the championship round.
