Sophomore
Andrew Loniewski qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships by finishing third at 141 pounds at the regional meet.
The national tournament is scheduled for March 14 and 15 in Providence, Rhode Island.
Loniewski, the Mules' ninth national qualifier since 2020 and the program's first at 141 since 2007, punched his ticket in the same way that he won the Centennial Conference title: by scoring a dramatic win against an opponent who had defeated him earlier.
LoniewskiÂ
(pictured above) reached the third-place match by recording consecutive major decisions against opponents from Alvernia and NYU. That gave him three consecutive major decisions in the tournament, matching his previous total from the season.
In the consolation final, Loniewski faced a Messiah opponent who beat him 10-5 the previous day, in the quarterfinals. Loniewski led that bout heading into the third period, however, 5-3.
In the rematch, it was the Falcon wrestler who took a 4-1 lead into the final two minutes. A pair of escapes and a stalling penalty tied the score, and with a bid to nationals on the line, Loniewski took his opponent down with fewer than 30 seconds remaining. Although he was reversed late in the match, he hung on for the 7-6 decision - his 30th win of the season.
Among the six other Muhlenberg placewinners, four won their final bouts, with senior
Anson Dewar placing fifth and graduate student
Joey Lamparelli (125), junior
Ryan Fairchild and senior
Andrew Franklin all finishing seventh. Lamparelli closed out with a major decision (the 19th of his career, one short of the school record)Â to finish his brilliant career with a record of 102-30.
