Four of the five wrestlers who served as co-captains of the 2025-26 Muhlenberg men's wrestling team will return to their leadership roles this winter.
Seniors
Andrew Loniewski,
CJ Horvath, and
Tyson Derenberger, and graduate student
Ben Krauss provide veteran presence on a young Mule squad that includes 14 freshmen.
Loniewski was a national qualifier at 141 as a sophomore but had his junior season curtailed by injury. He enters his senior campaign with a career record of 63-27, including 13 major decisions, 11 technical falls, and 19 pins. Loniewski has placed in 11 tournaments in his career, winning three.
Horvath was Muhlenberg's lone Centennial Conference champion in 2026, winning the 125-pound tile and finishing the season with a 25-4 record. The program's all-time leader in technical falls (23), he set a school record with 12 techs last year. Horvath came within one win of qualifying for nationals as a junior and owns a 63-18 career record through three seasons.
Derenberger returned to action last season after taking his sophomore campaign off, winning 12 bouts and representing the Mules at 165 at the CC and regional meets. He tied for third on the team in pins and placed third at the CC Championships, winning the consolation final by pinning the same opponent who had defeated him by major decision in his first bout.Â
Krauss has won 35 bouts in his career, with 19 of the wins coming by fall. Last year, he wrestled in nine bouts at 184, pinning three of his opponents, before suffering an injury. Krauss' lone complete season was his freshman campaign of 2022-23, when he started at 285 and ranked fourth on the team with 8 pins.
The Mules are scheduled to open their 2026-27 season at Alvernia's Tonee Ellis Memorial Tournament on Saturday, November 7.
