The Muhlenberg women's cross country team wrapped up an incredible season of improvement by placing 13th at the NCAA Metro Regional.
Senior
Jem Berney earned all-region honors by placing 31st with a career-best time of 22:58.5. The first all-region finisher for the Mules since 2022, Berney became the 13th runner in program history to break 23 minutes. At the beginning of October, their career-best time was 24:27.2; in three reaces since, they lowered that to 23:37.0, 23:03.5, and finally 22:58.5.
The strides made by the women's team were evident across the board, as each of Muhlenberg's top six runners set a personal best at the Metro Regional.
Junior
Maggie Holderith finished in 23:43.2, just missing out on the top 20 on the all-time performance list (23:43.1). She lowered her personal best, set two weeks ago at the Centennial Conference Championships, by almost 40 seconds.
Juniors
Ella Borello (24:16.3) and
Ava Lundy (25:02.4) and seniors
Julia Tassone (25:44.7) and
Katie Shepard (25:49.3) also ran career bests and cut significant time off their clocking on the same course just four weeks ago. Borello improved by 37 seconds, Lundy by an incredible 1:13, Tassone by 53 seconds, and Shepard by an even more incredible 1:42.
The 13th-place finish for the Mules was their best since 2021 and a three-spot improvement from last year.
The Muhlenberg men, hampered by injuries all season, finished in 19th place. Senior
Andrew Smolowitz led the Mules in 80th place, improving by 27 seconds from his time on the same course four weeks ago.
Junior
TJ Cook Jr. and freshman
Alex Stefaniak also lowered their times from the first meet at the course, while sophomore
Jake Restivo knocked nearly two minutes off his career best, finishing in 31:43.8.
