Women's soccer netminder
Dani Klingener has been named Centennial Conference defensive player of the week after leading the Mules to their best stretch of play in over a decade. It is the first time the senior has received the award.
Klingener started her week with a dominant performance in Muhlenberg's 1-0 defeat of Haverford on October 15. She made 10 saves on the evening, the most by a Mule goalie in a shutout win since 2014, and kept the clean sheet despite facing 13 shots in the second half. Klingener would add to that save total a few days later with four more saves in a 1-1 draw with regionally ranked Washington College. In all, she compiled a 0.50 goals against average (GAA) and a .933 save percentage (SV%) on the week.
That was just a continuation of a run that Klingener started on October 11 against McDaniel. In that one, she made a pair of saves to help Muhlenberg secure its first Centennial Conference victory of the year with a 1-0 shutout. Since that game, the Mules have gone 2-0-1 while the goaltender has totaled a 0.33 GAA and a .941 SV%.
The senior's hot stretch coupled with a few complete team performances has earned Muhlenberg seven points in the conference standings, its most in a season since 2019.
