Reilly Sullivan's header goal was the Muhlenberg Mules' sole score against the visiting Washington College Shorewomen as the Centennial Conference foes played to a 1-1 tie.
That goal came on a chaotic corner kick with about 18 minutes to play.
Kaylie Thran serviced the ball into the area around six-yard-line, and the Washington College goaltender punched it up and away from the head of
Delia Laverty. That wayward bounce ended up in the area of 5-foot-10 Sullivan, who headed it past a tangle of defenders and into the net. It was her third goal of the season and her first since scoring two on August 30 against Coast Guard.
While Thran got the assist (her fourth, which extends her team lead in points and gives her the lead in assists as well), Laverty's presence certainly affected the play; if not for the freshman, the Shorewoman goalie would have had an easy reception.
That score kicked the tempo of the game into high gear. Both teams had multiple offensive chances over the final 18 minutes, but a late goal by the Shorewomen knotted the score at one, where it would remain until the buzzer sounded.
The Mules remain just outside of a playoff spot with the tie. They now have seven points, but have a game in hand over the three teams immediately ahead of them (Haverford, Ursinus, and McDaniel). A win in Muhlenberg's next contest could put them in a playoff spot depending on the results of other games.
