The Muhlenberg track and field teams got strong performances at both the NYC DIII Invitational at the Armory and Ursinus' Frank Colden Invitational.
For the third time in as many meets in 2024, the Mule hurdlers stood out. Freshman
Maya Richwine won the hurdles for the third straight meet, finishing first in a field of 27 with a regional-qualifying mark. She ran 9.31 in the prelims and a career-best 9.15 in the final. Richwine also placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 26.65, the second-fastest in program history.Â
Senior
Sam McDonough broke a 19-year-old school record in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.70 to topple the previous mark of 8.85.Â
Top placewinners for the men in New York included freshman
David Seel, who placed fourth in the 800 with the 10th-best clocking in program history; freshman
Christopher Short, who came in sixth in the 400, just missing the top 10 on the performance list by 15 hundredths of a second; and two throwers - sophomore
Mike Powel (fifth in the shot put) and senior
Dylan DeMagistris (fifth in the weight throw).
Junior
Joshua Castro (pictured above left) ran the sixth-fastest 200 meters in program history.
On the women's side at the Armory, sophomores
Shira Gamson (fifth)Â and
Shanice Williams (seventh) both placed in the triple jump. Williams
(pictured above right) entered the all-time performance list in eighth place with her mark of 33-8¾, a big improvement on her previous PR of 32-10½.
At Ursinus, freshman future decathlete
Jaden Snow placed sixth in the 1000 and seventh in the hurdles, record the Mules' sixth-best hurdles mark ever. Freshmen
Marc Sebastian Montalvo was eighth in the 3000, and for the women, junior
Natasha Furyk placed fourth in the 5K.
The two Mule teams combined for 20 new and or improved Centennial Conference qualifiers.
