Exactly half of the wrestlers Muhlenberg sent to the Will Abele Invitational at Ursinus - eight of 16 - earned places in the top eight.
Of the eight placewinners, four came back to win their final bouts after losing their second-to-last bouts.
Senior
Joey Lamparelli was the Mules' top placewinner, coming in second at 125. Sophomore
Ryan Fairchild placed third at 184, and junior
Anson Dewar was fourth at 174.
Rounding out Muhlenberg's placewinners were junior
Brian McCaw, sixth at 125, and a quarter of seventh-place finishers: sophomore
Trey Miletics (157), freshman
Nick Stump (165) and juniors
Paul Parise (197) and
Andrew Franklin (285).
Lamparelli, ranked seventh in Division III, began the tournament by recording the fastest pin of his career, flattening his American International opponent in just 19 seconds. He advanced to the final before falling to the 15th-ranked 125-pounder in the country.
Fairchild was impressive in placing in the top five for the third time this season. Of his four wins, three came on first-period pins, and the fourth was by major decision. His only loss was to the fourth-ranked 184-pounder in Division III. Fairchild has a team-leading 8 pins among his 14 wins this season.
Dewar, the top seed at 174, wrestled three bouts before bowing out. He won all three on two pins and a technical fall, improving to 7-0 on the season.
McCaw dropped his first bout in overtime to the third seed, a Division II wrestler from East Stroudsburg, before coming back with four straight wins, including a technical fall and a major decision, to move past the 50-win mark for his career.
Miletics had the most wins in contested bouts, going 5-2 with one of his losses coming in a close match with a regionally ranked opponent from Scranton. Stump
(pictured above) recorded two major decision and a pin, and both of his losses were to regionally ranked opponents.
Parise had one of the Mules' most exciting bouts, coming back from a 9-2 deficit after getting taken down three times in the first period for a 12-11 win. Franklin notched his win in the seventh-place bout on a takedown with 37 seconds left in the third period.
Among non-placewinners, freshman
CJ Horvath recorded back-to-back technical falls at 125, sophomore
Billy Wilson won two bouts at 149 in his season debut, and freshman
