Men's Wrestling

Win, Loss, "Tie" for Wrestling

The Muhlenberg men's wrestling team won one of three matches in a strong field at the Scotty Wood Duals.

The Mules opened with a 48-5 win against Camden and ended with a 27-10 loss to Central. In between, they tied Washington and Lee, 19-19, with the Generals gaining an extra point on criteria.

Of the six Division III teams in the tournament, four are ranked in The Open Mat top 25 dual rankings: Johnson & Wales (ninth), Alvernia (10th), Central (13th) and Muhlenberg (21st). The other two, Messiah and Washington and Lee, both qualified wrestlers for the NCAA Championships this past March.

Junior Anson Dewar led the Mules by going 3-0, including a first-period pin against Camden and a 10-3 decision against a Washington and Lee opponent who was an NCAA qualifier last year and is currently ranked third in the Southeast Region.

Senior Joey Lamparelli, ranked sixth in Division III at 125 by The Open Mat, won both of his bouts, one with his 11th career technical fall.

Junior Frank DiEsso (pictured above) won a major decision against W&L and dropped a tight 5-4 decision against a Central wrestler ranked 17th in Division III.

In addition to Dewar, juniors Brian McCaw and Fletcher Goodman and freshman Nick Stump all recorded pins against Camden.
