Football Strikes Early in Win vs. McDaniel

The Muhlenberg football team scored on its third play from scrimmage and never looked back, breezing to a 41-7 win over McDaniel.

Sophomore Joe Repetti became the sixth quarterback in program history to throw for five touchdowns in a game, completing 17 of 22 passes for a career-high 270 yards and the five scores, including three in the first quarter.

The defense, meanwhile, forced three turnovers, two of which resulted in immediate scores. The only points the Mules (2-2, 2-1) allowed came on a short field after a turnover against the reserves in the fourth quarter.

Muhlenberg faced a third-and-4 following the opening kickoff when Repetti passed over the middle to senior James Nye, who slipped a tackle and outraced the Green Terror secondary for a 75-yard touchdown.

With exactly two minutes left in the opening quarter, the Mules doubled their lead on a 34-yard strike from Repetti to senior Michael Feaster, who caught his 17th career touchdown pass.

The Muhlenberg defense came into the game without a turnover through the first three games of the season, and an interception by a nose tackle was probably an unlikely way to break the drought. But that's exactly what happened three plays after Feaster's touchdown, as senior Jack Carroll tipped a pass in the air and caught it before it hit the ground for his first career pick.

On the very next play, with 43 seconds on the clock, Repetti hit Nye with a 23-yard touchdown pass.

Nye finished with four catches for a career-high 115 yards, becoming the sixth Mule tight end with a 100-yard receiving game.

Repetti's fourth touchdown pass, to senior Thomas Jenkins from 29 yards out, made it 28-0 late in the second quarter. It looked like that would be the halftime score when the Green Terror (1-3, 1-2) took possession on its own 20 with 29 seconds left. But McDaniel tried a running play, junior Keshawn McDowdell forced a fumble, and senior Alex Jr. Batista scooped up the ball and ran it in from 16 yards out for his first career touchdown.

A 7-yard touchdown reception by sophomore Andrew Darno capped the first Mule possession of the second half.

Junior Keshon Davila led the defense with a career-high 9 tackles, including a sack. Senior Dominick Visintin recorded his first career interception in the second half.
