The Muhlenberg women's basketball team fell at Dickinson, 47-44, in a close game in which neither team led by more than six points.
The Mules (9-12, 5-11) lost despite a stellar defensive effort that held the Red Devils (11-10, 10-7) to 24.6-percent shooting and an outstanding performance by senior
Margaux Eripret, who scored a season-high 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
Dickinson scored the first six points of the game, Muhlenberg scored the next six, and the game remained tight the rest of the way.
The Red Devils took a three-point lead into the fourth quarter and stretched it to five with 6:33 to play. The Mules scored the next five, tying the game at 39-all when Eripret drove in for a layup with just under three minutes left.
Dickinson appeared to put the game away by scoring the next six points, but a three-pointer from the corner by senior
Tara Szawaluk (pictured above)Â with 30 seconds on the clock halved the margin. The Red Devils made just two of their next six free throws to give the Mules a chance.Â
Freshman
Emily Vaughan made a pair of free throws with six seconds to play, making the score 47-44, and Muhlenberg forced a turnover on the ensuing inbounds pass. The Mules executed well and got a good look at a game-tying three from the corner, but the shot missed as time expired.
