Football Reclaims Sodexo Trophy

The Muhlenberg football team brought the Sodexo Trophy back to Allentown, ending the regular season with a 37-10 win at Moravian.

The Mules (6-4, 6-3), who have defeated the Greyhounds 11 straight times and won the Sodexo Trophy every year it's been issued, will play next week in the Centennial/MAC Bowl Series. If Johns Hopkins earns an NCAA at-large bid, Muhlenberg will be the second seed from the Centennial Conference and travel to King's for the bowl game. If the Blue Jays are left out of the national tournament, the Mules will be the third seed and travel to Lebanon Valley.

Senior cornerback John Washington won the Bianco Award as Muhlenberg's MVP after leading a stellar defensive effort. Washington picked off two passes, one in the end zone in the second quarter on the first play after the Mules fumbled a punt at the 15-yard line, and the other early in the fourth quarter to set up Muhlenberg's final touchdown on the next play. Washington also broke up three passes to become the program's all-time leader with 28 career breakups, breaking a record that had stood since 2005.

The Mule defense held Moravian to 173 total yards and nine first downs. The lone touchdown for the Greyhounds (3-7, 3-6) came late in the fourth quarter; prior to that Muhlenberg stopped the Greyhounds on three plays or fewer on seven of their first 12 drives. Greyhound quarterbacks were 10-of-27 for only 59 yards with three interceptions.

Offensively, sophomore Joe Repetti accounted for three touchdowns, passing for 242 yards and two scores while also recording his seventh rushing TD of the season. Senior Michael Feaster caught seven passes for 109 yards for his ninth career 100-yard game. Senior Ethan Brader rushed for 76 yards, the second-best total of his career, on 19 carries.

After Moravian went three-and-out on the first possession of the game, Muhlenberg drove 67 yards in 12 plays, including two fourth-down conversions, to take a 6-0 lead. Repetti connected with Feaster for a 12-yard gain on fourth-and-2 from the 27, and freshman Amari Dunn covered the final 6 yards on a fourth-and-1 play.

Another fourth-down conversion, a 24-yard pass from Repetti to Feaster on fourth-and-13, set up Repetti's 1-yard sneak to extend the lead to 13-0 late in the first quarter.

Senior Alex Garrido booted his first career field goal from 24 yards out to make it 16-0 with 2:02 left in the first half.

Moravian netted its first points on a long field goal in the final seconds of the first half, but Muhlenberg scored three second-half touchdowns to turn the game into a runaway.

Repetti threw touchdown passes of 19 yards to Feaster in the third quarter and 20 yards to senior Ben Kenyon (his first career TD) in the fourth on the first play after Washington's second pick. In between, junior Aaron Daniels scored his first career rushing touchdown on a 4-yard run.

Junior Matt Papa recorded a team-high 6 tackles for the defense, and senior Dominick Visintin picked off a pass and had one of the Mules' three sacks.
