The Muhlenberg football team scored on three straight second-half possessions to come from behind and defeat Franklin & Marshall, 28-21.
The win was the eighth straight at home for the Mules (5-3, 5-2) and assured them of a winning record in the Centennial Conference for the 12th straight season. It was the first time since 2015 that Muhlenberg came back from a halftime deficit to win a CC game.
Senior
Michael Feaster, who scored what proved to be the winning touchdown, caught seven passes for 124 yards for his eighth career 100-yard game, surpassing 2000 receiving yards for his career. Sophomore
Joe Repetti rushed 16 times for 101 yards, becoming the first Mule quarterback with a 100-yard rushing game since 2015. He also passed for 161 yards and did not throw an interception against a Diplomat team that came in leading Division III in picks.
Senior
Owen Daddona led the defense with 13 tackles, while senior
Dominick Visintin picked off a pass and junior
Keshawn McDowdell recorded 1½ sacks among his 8 stops.
Muhlenberg took the opening kickoff and marched down the field with relative ease, taking a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard run by senior
Ethan Brader 5:13 into the game. But the Mule offense was shut down for the rest of the half, and the Diplomats (4-4, 3-4) scored a pair of touchdowns to go into the locker room with a 14-7 lead.
Repetti had back-to-back runs of 29 and 10 yards on the Mules' first drive of the second half, and even though the drive ended on down, it changed the momentum of the game. F&M punt after running four plays on offense, and Muhlenberg needed only four plays - all runs - to travel 82 yards for the tying touchdown. Freshman Amari Dunn carried for the final 49 yards for his second career touchdown.
After the defense forced a three-and-out, it took only six plays for the Mules to regain the lead. A 42-yard catch by Feaster
(pictured above) on third-and-9 brought the ball to the 2-yard line, and Repetti ran it in two plays later.
Following another short F&M possession, Muhlenberg put together another 82-yard drive to extend the margin to two touchdowns, with Feaster getting open in the end zone to haul in a 22-yard pass from Repetti.
The Diplomats responded by putting together a good drive to get a first-and-goal at the 3. But a pass breakup by senior
John Lohrer on second down, a sack by McDowdell on third down and an incomplete pass on fourth down gave the Mules the ball back with 2:22 remaining, up two touchdowns.
It wasn't quite over yet. F&M got the ball back on a punt with 1:49 left and threw a 53-yard touchdown pass on the next play to close to within seven points. Muhlenberg recovered the onside kick and ran three plays before punting the ball back to the Diplomats with 30 seconds on the clock.
F&M made it interesting by connecting on two long pass plays to advance the ball to the Mule 40. Quarterback pressure on back-to-back plays by McDowdell and senior
James McGettigan slowed the momentum, however, and senior
Alex Jr. Batista batted down a desperation pass on the final play of the game.
